Current Status

Since we are starting this blog late in the process, we just wanted to let you know where we currently are.

We received our referral call on the morning of July 28th. It was for a 6-week-old "very healthy" infant boy. Upon getting the referral e-mail, we realized we were the soon-to-be parents of the most beautiful little boy in the world!!! All of his medical information looked very good and we knew, without a doubt, that this was our son. So with tremendous joy we signed and sent in our referral acceptance.

That referral e-mail was followed shortly by an e-mail informing us that the courts in Ethiopia would be closing August 22nd and would not re-open until October 6th. Seeing as that was now our next step, we did everything in our power to move as fast as we could (and keep the USPS in business in the process). But unfortunately, we did not receive a court date before the closures. And that is where we are now.

No new court dates will be given until after the courts re-open in October. Once we pass court, we will travel to get him roughly 2-4 weeks later.

We were able to get in touch with a family traveling this coming week (8/26) and send our son a care package. So a HUGE thanks to the Gomez family! Included in the package were photos, some onesies, a pair of booties (thanks Mom!), a teether, and some small toys. It helped to be able to get some things to him as I feel so helpless sitting here and not being able to do anything for him. When the Gomez family returns with their bundle of joy we will get new pictures!! So we can't wait until then.

So please pray for us in this time. Not only that we would pass our first court date, but that we would be patient and understand that God's timing is not best, its perfect.

  1. You guys seem to be in the same time process as Kathee and I were with Gideon. We were praying like crazy that our court date would be BEFORE the closing, which it turned out didn't happen. Some days it seems pass by quickly, others seem to take FOREVER. Knowing that your baby boy is being cared for by others (who love the Lord and your son) still doesn't make it feel any better knowing that you are ready and able to care for him RIGHT NOW. As you wrote, God's timing it best. Use this time to build endurance, perseverance, and a stronger, healthier marriage.
