He also cried for the first 45 minutes, but we were then able to settle him down. He has a cough and is very congested. Laura thinks it is an upper respiratory tract infection, which is very common among the children at the transition home. It was his cough that bothered him, as his lip would curl just before he would cough, then he would begin crying. We were able to feed him and change his diaper as well as play with some toys and a book we brought. The congestion also affected his eating making it hard for him to take his bottle. We would humbly ask that you would pray for his health.
At seven months he has some stranger anxiety. It is very obvious that he is attached to his nanny, as when she was around he would smile and bounce. That is a very good sign as that means he is able to form attachments and will be able to form a new bond with us. That does make it hard right now and so we also ask that you would pray for the bonding to occur quickly.
Laura and Aaron, This is pretty normal, Im sue. With your love, patience and wisdom he will be liking you guys "a whole lot" real soon. The separation is hard so need to look at the bigger picture. That being he will have a real Mom and Dad. I see all the orphans in Haiti and my heart weeps for those babies. Praying for you guys. Love Mom and Dad
ReplyDeletePraying for attachment and health. So glad you've finally met him!

ReplyDeleteI only wish I could change the font size on my comments...then I would leave you a really BIG smile!!!
We are SO excited for you!!!It sounds like you've had quite the adventure already. Just keep in mind anything good or bad, it's all about the experience God's there every step of the way. You'll be able to share that experience with him and that is just one more tool you'll have to strengthen the bond you develop with him. I would strongly suggest to keep a journal of it all so you will be able to answer his questions about his past as he grows in your family.

Simply amazing that you finally got to hold what you/we have been dreaming about all this time. What a precious miracle. I think I know what would make him stop crying, tell him when he gets home, he can go on a horsey ride with Auntie Debbie ;-)
ReplyDeleteAll of you are always in our prayers, but the prayers have been a lot more numerous lately. For such a long time you have pictured in your mind exactly what today would be like, but life is seldom exactly like we imagine it. Yiah will bond with you sooner than you think. Remember all the hard parts of this you have already gone through. This will be the easy and fun part. Today you brought a smile to God's face. We send our love and prayers.

The day has finally come to meet (this will be etched on your hearts forever!!!)...as quickly as this day has come so too will the day come when you are home and he is verbally calling YOU his Mom and Dad! God is so good, we are all lifting you and him up! I am praying his lungs will be made 100% whole so he can do some marathons with us one day =)

Wow! What a journey you're on! I'm so happy that you've finally been able to realize just part of your dream - you've held him! Next, you get to keep him. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm checking your blog regularly and sending tidbits on to the prayer chain for them to pray. (I didn't realize you could sign as "anonymous" and then sign your name. Duh. Hence, I will finally succeed in leaving a comment!)
We'll be praying for his health and ability to bond.
God bless you abundantly!

We're rejoicing and praying with the rest!! We're asking God to renew your strength after the rigors of the trip, while He also gives good health to precious little Yiah. We're praying that bonding grows steadily. Each day he will know you better, and that process will begin in earnest. Soon your hearts will be knit together into a strong family unit!
